As a son, husband, and dad to a daughter—I focus each day on advancing Axena Health’s mission to improve the lives of women affected by pelvic floor disorders. Because just like Charles Darwin said, “it’s not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change” and we are working to change the standard of care every day.
The reason I am so passionate about women's health is because women's health issues have been pushed to the back burner in research and development for too long. The time has come for data-driven, women-led healthcare for women. It is what they need and deserve. Inspired by Jennifer Gunter, "The days of snake-oil and patriarchy are over."
My commitment to women's health is career-long and sprang from exposure to the health needs experienced exclusively or disproportionately by women while in my final months of training. My desire for meaningful work that strives to cultivate awareness and build capacity for person-centered, intersectional, human rights-based, and equity-focused care matched a field - women's health - where disparities are deeply embedded, and the work is limitless. I became dedicated to women's health because there was work to do and I remain for the same reasons.
I've been fortunate to work at companies with innovative solutions that have improved the lives of millions of people worldwide. Being able to associate my efforts to the wide-scale availability of life-changing care for women is both humbling and thrilling at the same time. I have learned that, even with a great product, establishing a new standard of care is not easy. I believe success relies on a team of talented, resilient, resourceful, and committed people that never lose sight of the goal. The fight to win is part of the fun, and the result is incredibly rewarding.
